Pork chops are excellent, and we all love them. They are rich in protein, zinc, and iron. They are delicious side dishes for mashed potatoes, grilled pineapples, vegetable fried rice, butternut squash, sweet potato fries, etc.

Why do grilled pork chops dry out? Grilled pork chops easily dry out when cooked for an extended period. Pork chops are lean; therefore, they need quick cooking to prevent overcooking that leaves them dry. This article is made up of tips to help you make juicy grilled pork chops.

5 Tips for Grilling Moist Pork Chops

Choose bone-in pork chops over boneless versions

Pork chops are of two versions, i.e., bone-in and boneless pork chops. Usually, most bone-in pork chops are mainly cut from the rib and center sections. A significant difference between the bone-in version and boneless chops is that boneless versions don’t have bone and fat.

Why should you choose bone-in pork chops anyway? They don’t dry out pretty quickly, releases moisture, and have a great flavor.

Consider thick pork chops (bone-in) that are about 1-2 inches thick

The thickness of the pork chops you choose is significant if you want to grill juicy pork chops. Thin pork chops, especially boneless ones, are lean and tend to dry out quickly while grilling. Therefore, you should consider bone-in pork chops that are about 1-2 inches thick. They cook for a longer period but end up moist and tender.

Cook your pork chops at the right temperatures

Another essential aspect of grilling juicy pork chops is your control over the grill.

First, you should cook your pork chops at medium heat over a grill. Grills such as the Atgrills electric grills come with heat control; therefore, you can easily adjust your cooking temperature accordingly.

Secondly, you should ensure you attain the proper internal temperature on your pork chops. Usually, if you don’t cook well thick and tough cuts, you’re likely to end up with tough and dry meat. Similarly, if you overcook thin, lean pork chops, they end up dry and tough.

Therefore, use a meat thermometer while grilling pork chops. Ensure you attain an internal temperature of 145-150 degrees F for medium-rare, 150-155 degrees F for medium, and 155-160 degrees for well cooked.

Marinades and brine are essential

Marinades and brines can easily add extra moisture to your pork chops. On top of that, they enhance the flavor of your grilled pork chops.

Marinades boost moisture and tenderness. Generally, it introduces extra moisture into the meat that can get dry while grilling. Brining also does the same.

Always allow your pork chops to rest before serving

One of the common mistakes people make while grilling pork chops or other types of meats is slicing and serving immediately after the meat is off the grill. Even if you applied all of the above tips, serving your meat instantly could wash away all the effort.

It’s always recommended that you allow your pork chops to rest for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving. During this, juices and moisture redistribute in the meat; therefore, you end up with tender and juicy pork chops.
