What ingredients do you need to make grilled chicken wings?

Below are the ingredients you need to make grilled chicken wings:

  • Chicken wings
  • Garlic powder
  • Grounded pepper
  • Kosher salt
  • Olive oil, Avocado oil, or vegetable oil
  • Hot sauce or buffalo sauce

How to Prepare Chicken Wings for Grilling

Below is a step by step process on how to prepare chicken wings for grilling:

  1. Place a paper towel on a dry tray, a baking sheet, or a flat surface. Then place your chicken wings over it.
  2. Add another paper towel on top of the chicken wings. Tap on a paper towel to remove excess moisture on the chicken wings. You need them as dry as possible.
  3. You should then remove the paper towel on the lower and upper sides.
  4. Then use a basting brush to create a layer of oil on the chicken wings. Use any of the above-highlighted cooking oils. Ensure all sides are coated.
  5. Now, it’s time to add your favorite seasoning. Sprinkle some salt, grounded pepper, and garlic powder over the chicken wings. Also, ensure all your side is evenly covered with the seasoning. However, you can still opt to mix all your ingredients in a dish and then sprinkle the mixture over your chicken wings.
  6. Let the chicken wings rest as you prepare your electric grill.

Preheat your Electric Grill

You should never cook your chicken on a cold grill because it will easily stick to the cooking surface. Therefore, preheat your electric grill to medium-high heat (attain approximately 350-400 degrees F).

You can also be heating your electric grill as you prepare your chicken wings.

Cook your Chicken Wings on an Electric Grill

Now, it’s time to cook your chicken wings on a preheated grill.

Use a tong to place the wing on the grill grate for cooking. Spread them over the grill and ensure they don’t overlap each other.

Let your chicken wing cook for about 20 to 25 minutes. However, flip them after every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and charring.

Additionally, ensure your chicken wings attain an internal temperature of about 165-170 degrees F before removing them from the grill.

Remove from the Grill and Serve

Once your chicken wings are well cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for about 5 minutes.

You may brush the chicken wings with your favorite sauce. Also, you might opt to serve them with a dipping sauce. Typical dipping sauces include:

  • Garlic parmesan dipping sauce
  • Cilantro dipping sauce
  • Creamy mayo dipping sauce

FAQs

Should chicken wings be boiled before grilling?

Boiling chicken wings before grilling is optional. You can grill them raw or boil them first. Boiling keeps the chicken wings moist and reduces the cooking time.

Should I marinate chicken wings before grilling?

Yes, you can marinate your chicken wings before grilling, but it’s optional. Very few people marinate chicken wings before grilling because they’re already tender and the sauces used on chicken wings after grilling outweigh the flavor of marinades.

However, you should consider a simple seasoning with dry ingredients while preparing your chicken wings.

How do you keep chicken wings from sticking to the grill?

Coat your chicken wings with a layer of olive oil before you add them to the grill for cooking. It prevents them from sticking to the cooking surface.

Additionally, you should consider cooking on an electric indoor grill like Atgrills electric grill since they come with a non-stick coating on the cooking surface. As a result, your chicken wings cannot stick to the grill while cooking.
